Elle Macpherson stared her career in the entertainment industry as a model and has, over the years, acquired the nickname The Body. Macpherson is best known for her appearances in the popular magazine, Sport’s Illustrated, but is also a successful businesswomen and actress. In 1980 Macpherson visited America to look for work as a model to pay for her books for law school. The first agency she signed up with was Click Model Management and landed her first modeling job in a Tab commercial.

By the time she was 23 she had already appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, and was featured in an editorial called The Big Elle, GQ magazine, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Playboy and Vogue. Elle Macpherson had appeared in every issue of the popular Elle magazine by the time she was 21 and had appeared on five covers of the Sport’s Illustrated magazine from 1986 – 2006. 1994 was a major turning point for Macpherson’s career, as she took the risk of leaving her current agent, Ford Models, to start her own business.

She started out with a series of calendars that became so popular that they came with their very own “making of” television series. She used the success she received from this as a stepping stone for her own series of workout videos called Your Personal Best – The Body. She then moved on to bigger things in 1990 and brought out her own lingerie line called Elle Macpherson Intimates. This line of lingerie went on to become the bestselling line in both Australia and Great Britain. The popular line is also the featured brand on the popular TV series America’s Next Top Model.

Macpherson’s acting career started in 1990 when she landed the role of Model in Alice. It was a very small part, but it acted as a stepping stone for the aspiring actress, who, three years later, landed a role in Sirens as Sheela. She starred next to Hugh Grant and Sam Neil in the movie directed by John Duigan. In 1997 Elle Macpherson appeared in the hit blockbuster movie Batman and Robin and acted alongside the talented George Clooney, who played Batman in the movie, Chris O’Donnell, who played Batman’s sidekick Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy.

In 1999 Elle Macpherson landed a recurring role in the hit comedy series Friends and played Janine Lecroix alongside the most popular TV cast of all time, Jennifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer. Macpherson guest starred in five episodes with the ensemble cast from 1999 – 2000. As herself she appeared in various productions, apart from the photo shoots she did as a model. Since 1989 she has appeared in the Making of Sports Illustrated TV Documentary, Live with Regis, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Late Show with David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, The Graham Norton Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, America’s Next Top Model and Britain’s Next Top Model, which she hosts and acts as executive producer for.
